Actually, Bump is the new acquisition. They are a company that designed a 3D desktop interface with touch capabilities. This is expected to change a number of things with the next wave of Google software that will go on the market, such as generations of Androids in the future. This is expected to throw Apple for a little bit of a loop and keep Google competitive.
Not only does summer bring warm temperatures and reruns of Lost and your favorite reality TV programs, it also marks the time of year when you could hear that knock-knock-knockin’ at your door.

In a long-standing tradition, spanning over 140 years, college students from all over the country and internationally have traded their text books for another set of books. Nearly 3,000 will spend their summer break knocking on doors just like yours, gaining experiences in sales and life that simply can’t be taught in a lecture hall.

As participants in the Southwestern Company’s summer selling program, student dealers get to see a cross-section of the US (or Canada) as they travel to Tennessee for sales and leadership training and then to the area they will call home for the summer.

These are no ordinary college students, and what they are doing certainly does not qualify as an ordinary summer experience. They walk the beaten path. The path, that is, that leads to your doorstep. It is at your doorstep that their real education begins.

“As independent dealers running their own business, selling Southwestern Company’s educational products give the students a higher level of skills and knowledge that their future employers are looking for,” says Dan Moore, President of Southwestern Company and a former dealer in Southwestern products for six years. “We also have lots of opportunities in our own corporate family of companies which were all started with former southwestern company student dealers.”

When asked why a college student, who could otherwise be at the beach or “vegging” at home would give up their summer break to visit thousands of families, the answer is “why not?” says Matt Atchison, a District Sales Manager with Southwestern Company who has also been an independent dealer in Southwestern Company products for eight years.

“College students want to learn and amass as much usable experience and personal growth as they can to prepare for life after school. With this program, they can experience first-hand how to run their own business, communicate face to face and explore who they are and who they want to become,” says Atchison.

Look out for the men and women of the “bookfield,” ’cause here they come!

For many students high school graduation is just around the corner. There are many paths that students will take from here — jobs, college, or the military. For those who will be heading off to college in the fall, the hard part of choosing which college to attend has already been made. Some will stay close to home by attending a local university or junior college while others will travel many hours and states away. Regardless of where your education aspirations take you there is still one major decision that needs to be made. Where to live.

There are several different options to consider when contemplating where to live. There are more than a few students who at 18 or 19 years of age do not feel quite ready to be on their own, so they decide to spend a few more years at home. This can also be a more convenient and cost effective decision especially if the student will be attending school locally .

However if a student has chosen a school out-of-town or out-of state, living at home isn’t an option. Most colleges and universities have dorms for students that come from farther away. Dorms can be a lot of fun and are a good way to socialize and meet people. The downside to dorms is that they are usually very small and most of the time you have to share that small space with at least one other person. They can be pretty expensive and don’t allow you to have much privacy.
If you don’t want to live at home and dorms aren’t your style, the other option is to rent an apartment . There are a lot of amenities apartments offer that dorms do not. There is a lot more space, even if you have roommates, and a lot more privacy. Many apartment complexes have swimming pools, fitness centers, and some even have tanning salons. Unfortunately, apartments can be rather pricey as well, depending on the area.

The best thing to do before making any decisions is to explore all of your options. See all that the school and the surrounding area have to offer before deciding on that perfect place to live during college .

After my father retired, genealogy became one of his primary occupations, and while much of his time was spent online searching through the newly accessible information on the latest technology known as the Internet, he would also travel to different areas of the country to explore cemeteries for clues to lost relatives, or simply to find the final resting place of his (and my) direct ancestors. He managed to trace the family as far back as 1680, arriving in America just before the 17th Century ended. That meant I had great great great great, (etcetera) grandparents who were involved with the American Revolution and the Civil War. Just twenty miles outside of Atlanta, Georgia, the town of Marietta is home to at least four historic sites of interest to the Civil War, including one park and three cemeteries: The Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, the Marietta National Cemetery, the Marietta Confederate Cemetery, and the Marietta City Cemetery.

To examine all these sites properly, you may want to stay the night. You can find more information by clicking here, where you’ll find two of the best places to stay in town. Once that’s settled, you can concentrate more on the sites. The Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park was where the Union Army met the Confederates who were settled in on the mountain ridgetops. They delayed General William T. Sherman’s inevitable March to the Sea and the burning of Atlanta in what is now a 2,888 acre park. In the Marietta National Cemetery, you’ll find a site created in 1866. Four years earlier, with the Civil War death toll rising, national cemeteries were proposed. This cemetery holds both Union and Confederate soldiers; the cemetery contains over 17,000 men, of which 3,000 are unidentified.

There’s also the Marietta Confederate Cemetery, which contains over 3,000 soldiers. A woman named Jane Porter Glover gave a part of her plantation to bury twenty Confederate soldiers killed in a train crash. From that incident, the cemetery grew and there’s soldiers represented from all of the Confederate States and also from Missouri and Maryland and Kentucky. It’s the biggest Confederate Cemetery found to the South of Richmond. Many of these soldiers fought in the Kennesaw Mountain battle as well as the Battle of Kolb’s Farm. Finally, there’s the Marietta City Cemetery. The history of Marietta is contained on this land, honoring the former mayors and prominent town citizens. Established in 1830s, a part of the cemetery contains the Old Slave Lot; no other cemetery in the state of Georgia gave space to burying slaves or free people descended from Africa. No matter which site you visit, some or all will provide a greater sense of history and a glimpse into the lives of our ancestors.

Often times you hear lawyer jokes. I know when I was in high-school in Phoenix lawyer jokes were real funny. We often speak of them in contempt and as though they are a disgrace, but anyone who has had a family member in serious trouble knows the importance of a good lawyer. Sure there may be some of them who chase ambulances, but any profession will have it’s bad seeds, but they also have their really good seeds. You might think now that these people went to law school because they want to get rich quick, but it is a hard task studying the law, knowing case after case and knowing what set the precedent for the outcome you are looking for. Law schools are hard and if that isn’t enough to discourage people then when you consider the fact that a lawyer has to be the top of the top to get hired by a decent law firm and anything below that often should go find a small provincial town. When you consider all this, why would they be working so hard just to represent us when we are at our worst if not for the fact that they really care.

The truth is that these people work hard. They are not all as competent as others, and sometimes that can be the exact problem. The best way to get a competent lawyer is to make sure that they specialize in the field that you would be in. If you have a civil case or a criminal case, the laws that they should be able to pull out of the top of their head are very different. Also making sure that you have a lawyer that specializes in the area you are in. You wouldn’t want Salt Lake City lawyers trying a case in Georgia, the lawyers won’t know any of the judges, any of the other lawyers, nor will he have as good of a grasp on the feelings of the jurors you will be facing if it is something that has to head into court. I think you will find that if you find yourself in a bind and need a lawyer, do some research first. You will have a whole new respect for lawyers if you hire a truly competent one. Not to mention that it might be the fine line between the ruling you want, and the one you don’t.

When I travel to foreign cities I am drawn to the archaeological museums and sites, as well as to the art museums. It is part of my nature, as I went to University when I was younger, and now I myself am a painter. What intrigues about archaeology, is the visual evidence of history and culture. This too may be said about my visits to the art museums and the galleries, to visually take in the cultures and the beliefs as they are interpreted by the artists. I questioned the man at the front desk of my first stay at one of the four star hotels. “Mumbai has so much to offer”, he said, and then he listed off a few places that he thought I may enjoy.

The two spots I chose, were the Mumbai-Bombay Kanheri Caves, and the Bhau Daji Lad Museum. The caves are located in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park just about ten kilometers outside of the city of Borivali. They are believed to have been used by the Buddhist Monks during the first century BC up through the ninth century AD. The caves themselves were carved out by the monks, and most of them are sparsely adorned, however there is one cave that still has the remnants of a ceiling mural, Chaitya Cave, and this fascinated me to no end, archeology and art, commonly found in the same location, but breathtaking to see each and every time. Sculptures of Buddha remain in the caves and surrounding them still.

Still reeling from my visit to the caves, the next day I took in the Museum. The museum is named for the man, Dr. Bhau Daji Lad who spent is entire life taking care of it. It is located within the grounds of the Victoria Gardens, and contains many different items, industrial and decorative, antique furniture, artificial boulders, sculpture and paintings. The museum collection illustrates the history of many different regions of the country, not just of Mumbai. The restoration has left this one magnificent building in and of itself, and for the next few days, weeks even, the history of India was forever on my mind.
