The most confusing thing for someone riding a motorcycle cross country is navigating the seemingly insane patchwork of helmet laws. Cyclists have to know the law for every jurisdiction they plan to traverse — or they can just do what they want and hope no one stops them. The latter, however, is hardly a legally responsible plan of action. Should they find themselves the victim of an accident, they may still be held liable for their own injury even if the accident was the fault of another vehicle. This is why it’s so important, if there’s an accident in Florida, to consult with a motorcycle accident injury attorney. Fort lauderdale , Miami, Orlando, and other cities all have experienced lawyers that can help understand how local helmet laws apply.

Most states now require the wearing of a helmet by the rider and passenger of a motorcycle. However, there are variations in the degree of liability in case of an accident and even more variations if the accident results in injury or death. Some state require additional protective gear in addition to helmets, which makes it all the more confusing for anyone who likes to take to the open road on their motorcycle for days or weeks on end.

Studies have proven that wearing a helmet can significantly decrease the chance of brain injury during an accident. However, few riders believe that an accident will apply to them. When the potential legal and financial liabilities are combined with the fines associated with breaking the law, perhaps the best thing is to just wear a helmet at all times.

Whether you know the term social bookmarking or not, you’ve probably already engaged in the process repeatedly. Social bookmarking sites may make it easier to share bookmark s, but there are other ways to share.

If you’ve ever sent someone an email or instant message telling them to check out a specific URL then you’re a social bookmarker. However, taking a bookmark to an email or instant messaging service or even to a social media site like Facebook or Twitter, may be a great way to pass on the information, but it isn’t a great way to organize bookmarks. Not for you and not for those you’re sharing with.

Social bookmark sites bring together the elements of sharing with tools for organization. They allow you to put all your bookmarks in one place, those you find through social media, from surfing, from forums or messaging and put them in one place. They usually have an easy way for you to upload all the bookmarks in your web browser as well — even if you have multiple computers and browsers. Once your bookmarks are in one place, you can organize them by tagging the subject matter and some sites allow you to create separate lists or folders based on larger categories. All of this organization makes it easier for you to find a specific bookmark when you can’t remember whether it came to you from surfing at work, an email from your sister or a post on someone’s myspace page. More importantly, friends and other users can search for bookmarks by tags and categories from not just their bookmarks but also yours — and those of other users of the site. All organized by subject and popularity .

There are few things as strong as the love between a car fanatic and a big car. Sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle that has enough space to stretch out in all directions is a feeling that’s never going to get old. It brings back memories of a past where we sleep in the back seat while our parents drive home from a party, getting perhaps the best sleep of our lives. There was a definite safety in being in a car that size, and moving it around on the road was like moving a house, only with exquisite handling.

It makes sense, then, that in these days people still like to drive big cars, and one of the best things one can do to show their affection is to take good care of it. A proper maintenance schedule can add years and years to any car, but with classics like a Chevy Monte Carlo , it’s a no-brainer, because they’re actually built to last. It’s said over and over that the best thing anyone can do for their car is to change the oil. A decent manual can certainly help with that, but there are many other possibilities that are worth exploring.

The Chiltons line in repair manuals have always been excellent, and they have a reputation for the clarity of information. That can come in very handy when you’re in a tight spot, and trying to figure out what the problem is. There are always stories going around about the best friend mechanic who takes apart a car, and can’t remember how to put it back together. Chances are slim that anyone would do that to a Monte Carlo , but it’s nice insurance knowing that it’s possible. The car will last a long time, but only as long as all the parts are there.

When it’s just the beginning of a venture into auto repair, it’s a good idea to take things slow, and see what the car is made of. Keep the mechanic’s number on speed dial, but trust that there’s a learning curve to all of this. Eventually, the beauty of the machine will start to haunt your dreams, and you’ll find yourself thinking about mods more than anything else, and that’s when the adventures really begin.

Looking at the history of the automobile, it seems like a remarkably short amount of time for something to have taken such a major hold in our imagination. They’ve changed the way we do things, certainly, and it’s even possible that they’ve changed the way we think. When large distances between points suddenly becomes smaller, and on a massive scale, we are confronted with the notion of seeing space and time in different ways. A vehicle is what gets you there, and for those who love the ride as much as the destination, then modifications become an important part of the car’s soul.

Most modifications begin, and also end, with rims and tires . These are the traditional bread and butter for most gearheads, marking the difference between decoration and serious modification. The first cars had wooden wheels and iron rims , and the brakes were nothing more than wooden blocks. It’s been a long evolution since those days, where the presence of the spinning rims at stoplights is now considered kind of a hallmark of someone who’s landed in style. Between then and now, however, most of the changes have been pushed forward because of low rider culture.

It is difficult to look at some cars and not imagine that they have a soul. The contemporary animism of automobile lovers inspires many of us to give our vehicles names, especially when it comes to our first car. It doesn’t take much of a stretch, then, to imagine how new rims for car tires might help to bring out our particular car’s personality. The first generation of low riders , however, didn’t conceive of the big rims we see today, because they had to be low to the ground to maintain a mean appearance, and to give it that edgy personality that is easily readable on the streets. Time and space may be more relative than we imagined, but we all move through the same streets, only some of us have a little more style than the others.
