There are many differences between one rehab program and another rehab program. A New York drug rehab will be different than a drug rehab in Minnesota . The different types of recovery vary with the different types of detox and therapy programs. Listed below is a summary of the more popular drug rehab approaches.

Medical, Non-medical Detox and Bio Physical detox, can make a huge difference with how an addict will recover. Medical detox is using medications to help with a smoother withdrawal from the substance being abused. Some facilities will use a combination of natural, holistic and medicinal approaches. As for Non-medical detox, the withdrawal is more difficult, but has proven to be more effective for addicts with recovery because they see just how much the substance they were abusing has taken over their bodies and quality of life. Bio Physical detox works by completely removing not only the residual drug found in the fatty tissues ,but throughout the body. This type of detox can last weeks or months.

After detox, there is the traditional, the 12-Steps and the non-traditional methods of treatment. Traditional and 12-Step models comprise of 95% of rehab facility programs; mainly due to their success. Traditional treatments involve psychological therapies, some involving prescription drugs, usually anti-depressants and regular, on-going counseling once the recovering addict leaves the rehab. The 12-Step program covers all addictions, alcohol, cocaine, meth and prescription drugs. The program works with the substance abuser’s desire to use instead of solving life’s problems. 12-Step methods use meetings, sponsors, action and education techniques all geared to stop further substance abuse, plus it’s free. Non-traditional rehab methods involve improving abilities and increasing self-control through cognitive realization, exercise and counseling.
