A Competant Lawyer Can Make You Appreciate the Law System
Often times you hear lawyer jokes. I know when I was in high-school in Phoenix lawyer jokes were real funny. We often speak of them in contempt and as though they are a disgrace, but anyone who has had a family member in serious trouble knows the importance of a good lawyer. Sure there may be some of them who chase ambulances, but any profession will have it’s bad seeds, but they also have their really good seeds. You might think now that these people went to law school because they want to get rich quick, but it is a hard task studying the law, knowing case after case and knowing what set the precedent for the outcome you are looking for. Law schools are hard and if that isn’t enough to discourage people then when you consider the fact that a lawyer has to be the top of the top to get hired by a decent law firm and anything below that often should go find a small provincial town. When you consider all this, why would they be working so hard just to represent us when we are at our worst if not for the fact that they really care.
The truth is that these people work hard. They are not all as competent as others, and sometimes that can be the exact problem. The best way to get a competent lawyer is to make sure that they specialize in the field that you would be in. If you have a civil case or a criminal case, the laws that they should be able to pull out of the top of their head are very different. Also making sure that you have a lawyer that specializes in the area you are in. You wouldn’t want Salt Lake City lawyers trying a case in Georgia, the lawyers won’t know any of the judges, any of the other lawyers, nor will he have as good of a grasp on the feelings of the jurors you will be facing if it is something that has to head into court. I think you will find that if you find yourself in a bind and need a lawyer, do some research first. You will have a whole new respect for lawyers if you hire a truly competent one. Not to mention that it might be the fine line between the ruling you want, and the one you don’t.
